The Digital Media Research Centre, QUT, and Brisbane SIGCHI is co-hosting a visitor seminar with guest speaker Professor Kaisa Väänänen.

Date: 7. November 2023

Time: 1-3pm

Abstract: In the recent years, Human-Centred AI (HCAI) has been introduced as a balancing factor to the rapidly advancing technical AI development. HCAI aims to put human needs and ethical risks in the centre of attention, when new AI-powered applications are designed. However, there seems to be a tension between HCAI and the real-world AI design practice. Furthermore, many AI systems may produce side-effects with unanticipated societal impacts. In this talk, I will present research findings and observations about the challenges of making HCAI a reality. I will invite the audience to discuss the ways in which digital media research can affect the future of AI systems to be more humane and sustainable.
