Time: 10 September, 11.15am-12.00pm.

Abstract: Many of the newest and most complex concerns in social robotics, such as embodiment, morphology, and emotional expression, are themes that have been addressed for centuries in sculpture. In this talk, Dr. Belinda Dunstan will describe her research path from sculpture to social robotics. The talk will explore the broader theme of the difficulties and delights of cross-disciplinary research, and then delve into some applications of art theory to human-machine interaction. Dr. Dunstan will share examples from her work to highlight the evident need for multidisciplinarity in the design of social technologies.
